This course focuses on the theories and procedures of managing groups in our society, their dynamics, with emphasis on group formation, cohesiveness, groupthink, problem solving and decision making, leadership, power, social learning, social communication and the function and dysfunction aspects of conflict in groups.

This Social Pedagogy course consists of a combination of didactic instruction and experimental learning. A variety of small group activities are led throughout the course to enable the student to develop competent group skills.

COURSE OBJECTIVES include, but are not limited to, the following: The student will demonstrate understanding of:
1. Definitions and differences between groups and teams. Group structure, functions, norms.

2. Demonstrate understanding of principles of group dynamics, including group process components, developmental stage theories, group members’ roles and behaviors.

3. Group leadership theories, styles and approaches, including characteristics of various types of group leaders and leadership styles.

4. Importance of Trust in a group, among peers and between a leader/followers and vice versa.

5. Conflict dynamics. Conflict as a mean to develop better relationships.

6. Become more conscious of his/her personal growth as a group member.

7. The key role of Communication in our society
